Nha Trang (Part 2)

So Friday was great.  We booked a boat cruise late on Thursday night for 110,000d (about $6.50) so at 8:30am we were waiting at the booking office not really knowing what to expect, except that there would be some snorkelling and some sort of floating bar.  A crowded bus picks us up and takes us to a busy port at the southern end of the beach where we hop onto the boat.  Our first stop was an aquarium on one of the islands.  It was neat, but the tanks were very small and the fish very big.

On the way to the next island, the tour guide set the mood by cracking open a tiger and offered one to any one who wanted on.  I took one and so began the drinking.  We stopped off at the next island where we could snorkell.  So after a few bombs off the top of the ship, I had a look.  There was some coral and a few fish, but nothing all that exciting, so I went back to diving off the top of the ship.  Our next stop was lunch and some entertainment.

The second last island was where we would enjoy the floating bar.  It was pretty much an inner tube with a frame, where the barman was in the middle doling out free red wine, which seemed weak in flavour, but packed a punch.  Everyone got a floaty and jumped in.  Good times.

The last stop was at a small beach on an island, where for 20,000d you could walk off the boat and wonder around.  I didn't bother, and just sat on the roof of the boat chatting with a bunch of other backpackers.  Everyone was talking about their trips, and where they were off to next.  I was jealous of the amount of time they had to spend.  We were certainly in the minority with our three week journey.  The beer was flowing, and filled in the afternoon very quickly.

We had made plans to catch up over drinks that evening, so we went and got a quick dinner and went to the Why Not bar.  Everyone was there and we had a great time.  They have a drink there which is 3-4 shots of rum or vodka with a redbull like substance, and pineapple juice.  It tasted good, but was deadly potent, and when it only cost about $1.50, very easy to have too many.  I fell in to this trap and staggered home quite a bit later than planned.  A very good night out though.

The next day had been planned as a relaxation day, which was fortunate for me.  The power was out, so when we woke up the room was stinking hot, and no chance of escape.  I went for a swim and felt much better immediately.  Unfortunately this didn't last long.  I have picked up a stomach bug, and had to make a few emergency trips to the toilet throughout the day.  I wasn't looking forward to the 8hour train trip that night.  We bummed around in a couple of different lounge bars before finally making our way to the train station.

The train trip was uneventful, we arrived at Hoi An around 5:30am.  We are planning on discovering Hoi An today, and probably going to My Son tomorrow before heading to Hue.

Cheers,

Michael!

Ok photos now..
