Reunions.
So I made it to Emporia. I lucked out in my flight to Raleigh, I had a two year old that screamed for a good two hours of the six hour flight. Needless to say I did't get much sleep. Anyway, I arrived safely and collected my rental car, and promptly got lost. As it turns out I was driving south along the I40 instead if east like I thought. I only went about 30miles the wrong way, so it wasn't too bad. After I turned around, I found a shopping mall, and got some new clothes and then headed for Emporia, Virginia. I got there in time to check into my hotel room and have a shower before heading into town to check out my friend Julie's shop. I walked around town for a little while before getting some supplies and headed back to my room. Given I hadn't slept properly for about three days, I thought a couple hour kip would be a good idea. I had arranged to meet some of my other high school buddies that evening at the local Applebee's, so I grabbed a quick shower and headed over there.
I met up with Jess Allen, Elliot Poetry, Julie and husband Billy Joe, Tom Zimmerman, Diane Randolf, Jeremy Slagle and Andrea Dianis and husband Alex. It was great to see them all. We ended up staying quite late. The next morning after a bit of an un-intentional sleep in (I missed breakfast :-( ), I headed to Colonial Heights to see if anything has changed, and to get some electronic accessories that I needed (such as a plug adapter for my Aus stuff) Andrea had invited me over to her place to a 'tailgate' party and to watch the Hokies play. It was great, we played Corn hole, which is like horseshoes but with small sacks of corn, and drank beer. I felt very American.
Then came the reunion. I did't recognize most of the faces there, and unfortunately for me, they recognized me (or at least my accent). But it was great to catch up, and find out what every one is up too these days. I ended up consuming quite a bit of alcohol and a rather good calzone.
Today I am geading out to the Hampton Roads area to see my Prom date Erin. I haven't been out there before, so it will be good fun.
