Race Day

Well well well... Very successful morning for the BRS crew, but I am getting ahead of myself.

The morning started very early at 4am (or midnight Brisbane time) to get ready for a bus at 4:30am.  We got to the start line with plenty of time to spare.   We started the race, and had a good 45mins of pitch black before the sun started to rise.  This was a bonus, as when the sun rose, the heat came along with some humidity for good measure.

I had managed to tag along with a Kiwi and Canadian who were great company.  Together we made it through the 25km mark averaging around the 5:35 - 5:45 sort of pace.  Unfortunately at 25ks is about as much long run training as I had done, so I fell back pretty quickly.  I ended up having to walk / run the last 6ks, which certainly made it that much longer.  I am pretty happy with my time of 3hrs 11mins, and will come back again for sure.

The big news is that Renae our coach was first Female, and fast Matt was first Male!  Matt set a time of 2:07, and Renae 2:28!!!  Liss was also third female.  Steve was top ten in the 10k event.  Everyone else had a fantastic morning, though there were many reports of emergency pit stops...  Perhaps the water isn't as safe to drink as first thought.

This afternoon will be spent lazily.  There is some talk of pool sitting, or perhaps some snorkeling.  Tonight is Island Night, so we will dine at the resort with the backdrop of islander dancing!
